Of the very finest quality, the desk has burr walnut panels inlaid with boxwood decoration and contrasted with walnut cross-banding. The desk is further enhanced by the use of ebony and gilt-metal mounts.

The quality of any piece of furniture is always indicated by the level of finish to the less noticeable areas. In this case the quality is the same throughout the piece. Notice particularly the well figured burr walnut panels on the inside of each pedestal.
