Vile & Cobb Furniture
WILLIAM VILE & JOHN COBB
Highly important cabinet-making partners based in St. Martin's Lane and employed by the crown early in the reign of George III. Between 1750 and 1760, William Vile was perhaps the most eminent craftsman of his generation. His known work is often superior to that produced by Chippendale in the rococo period. After Vile's death in 1767, Cobb produced work in the neo-classic manner incorporating floral marquetry.
