A George III Sheraton Period Satinwood Secretaire Bookcase
Of exceptional colour and patination. having a shaped top with five urn shaped finials above two glazed doors enclosing adjustable shelving. The lower section having a well fitted secretaire drawer above three graduated drawers. the bookcase supported on four bracket feet.

A virtually identical bookcase is housed at Arlington Court, North Devon. It was bequeathed to the National Trust together with the entire collection of the Chichester family on the death of Miss Rosalie Chichester in 1949. The Arlington bookcase is illustrated in English Furniture 1760 - 1900 by Geoffrey Wills, p142 , fig.113: There are stylistic grounds for attributing these bookcases to the firm of Seddon's who were active at the end of the Eighteenth Century, based at Aldersgate Street, London.
