A George III Sheraton Period Satinwood Flower Stand or Bough Pot
A George III Sheraton Period Satinwood Flower Stand or Bough Pot
When the craze for tulips had spread from Holland to England bough pots were designed to allow for the growing of bulbs inside the house. This example is most unusual having three tiers on a stand. Comparison may be made to a single bough pot illustrated in the Dictionary of English Furniture Vol.II pg 238 fig 2 and another from the Leisdorf Collection 1974, lot 93. The close similarity of the decoration on each suggests the same workshop. (glass vials replaced).
