A Queen Anne Walnut Veneered Bachelor's Chest
The cross-banded hinged top opening to reveal a cross-banded and baize lined top which opens to reveal a well with divides for paper, pens and inkwells.
Below the top is one long drawer above two banks of short drawers flanking a kneehole cupboard. The cupboard may be set back to form the kneehole or may be drawn forward till flush with the drawers. The kneehole is a feature we have not seen on a bachelor's chest before.
This exceptional bachelor's chest is a very good colour walnut, retains its original handles, carrying handles and locks, has herringbone inlay around each drawer and cross-banding to each side. Furthermore, the chest is also veneered on the back, which is almost unheard of.
