A Most Exceptional George III Mahogany Serpentine Fronted Chest on Chest

The tallboy has a carved swan-neck pediment with dentil moulding and carved rosettes above further egg and dart and dentil mouldings and carved swags of bell flowers in the frieze. The upper section has two short and three long drawers with swan-neck handles and a carved beeded edge to each drawer. The lower section has four long drawers similarly carved and with the same handles and escutcheons as above. Down the centre of each drawer is an inlaid chequer line. The drawers are flanked to either side by canted corners which have been lavishly carved.

This extraordinary tallboy is the finest example we have ever come across. The proportions are perfect, the selection of book-matched and highly figured veneers exceptional and the colour and patination are quite as good as any antique piece should be.
