Memorable Pieces | |
The following images, taken from our archives, illustrate a small selection of pieces we have handled over the past 60 years and which have given us special pleasure and enjoyment. Either for the pieces themselves, their origins or the collections in which they have been placed. A George II Walnut Side ChairA chair of almost identical form was in the Percival Griffiths Collection at Sandridgebury. It was subsequently in the Frederick Poke Collection at Langholm, London until sold in June of 2001.
English, Circa 1730 Comparisons with the Houghton 'Eagle' Suite, which has been attributed to William Bradshaw or Benjamin Goodison, are also relevant. The Macquoid and the Moss Harris chairs, illustrated next to each other in the Dictionary of English Furniture, the Houghton chairs and this chair all have the identical shell to the knee which, in each case, extends upwards into the it. It is likely that these chairs were made in the same workshop. LITERATURE
