The twin plated George III mirrors flanked by pilasters with border glass and the rare feature of spider's web paterae. The acanthus plinth bases surmounted by foliate carved Ionic capitals and classical urns between a carved and shaped canopy and foliate scrolling. The mirrors in excellent condition and superb quality.

Hinwick House was built between 1709-14 for Richard Orlebar in the classical Queen Anne style. Family history recalls that the pier glasses were specifically ordered from the firm of John Linnell for Hinwick. The side pilasters reflect the giant order Corinthian pilasters on the exterior of the house. This early use of pilasters is unusual in Linnell's early neo-classical work and suggest a specific commission. This is also the case with the spider's web paterae which are not recorded elsewhere and would imply direct links to the family or their history. There is a strong connection with the area as the Linnells emanated from Hemel Hempstead and from 1749 worked closely with Henry Flitcroft at Woburn, some 12 miles from Hinwick.
