A Georgian Hepplewhite Period Wardrobe

SOLD - A George III Hepplewhite Period Mahogany Wardrobe

Height: 75" 191cm
Width: 49 " 126cm
Depth: 23 " 60cm

The upper half with two cupboard doors, behind which are four sliding shelves, below a fluted frieze with carved paterae. Below, the base has two short drawers and one long drawer, all retaining their original fire-gilded brass swan neck handles, and supported on fluted bracket feet with carved spandrels.

The wardrobe of particularly fine quality and made all the more exceptional by the flame figured veneers which have been used to such striking effect on the doors and the drawers. However, the effect is further enhanced by the colour and patination that has been allowed to develop over the last two hundred years and the contrast between these veneers and the cross banding around the doors and the drawers.
