SOLD - A Georgian Chippendale Period Carved Mahogany Commode

Height: 31" 78.5cm
Width: 38" 96.5cm
Depth: 23" 58.5cm

This George III early Chippendale period commode is serpentine in shape with a gadrooned moulding to the top above four graduated drawers all retaining the original chased and fire-gilded handles. The top drawer retaining its fitted interior.

The commode, which also has canted corners, stands on 'ogee' bracket feet with a most exceptional feature; each has carved foliage to the outer edges. The commode's rarity is further enhanced by the colour and patination of the wood.

English. Circa 1760

This commode, both in terms of the materials employed and the quality of the work, is of particularly fine quality and certainly comparable to a piece from Erthig, Denbighshire which is illustrated in the Dictionary of English Furniture.
